Audiovisual Rights

A strong product and a clear strategy – the Bundesliga is one of the planet’s leading sports brands and is experiencing growing demand throughout the world. This is based on a strong international presence. The audiovisual rights business unit of DFL Sports Enterprises provides a tailored range of offerings for international markets.

Bringing the Bundesliga to the world

FC Bayern München´s victory in the all-German 2013 UEFA Champions League final was followed by triumph for the German national team in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Without doubt, recent years have been very successful ones for German football, with numerous stars exciting Bundesliga fans all over the world. Full stadia, which rank amongst the most beautiful and modern in the world, and a unique atmosphere in the stands – the evolution of the Bundesliga is also setting new standards that go beyond the realm of sport.

International interest in live games from the Bundesliga is also extremely high. The Audiovisual Rights team sells audiovisual media rights around the globe and functions as a key account for international Bundesliga broadcasters. Excellent customer service in the form of genuine partnerships and a globally accessible TV product portfolio with the highest levels of production quality are of central significance to this.
On the basis of contracts signed by DFL Sports Enterprises, Bundesliga matches are shown live by broadcasters in more than 200 countries. The successful agreements, including those with globally leading media networks such as FOX International Channels, Eurosport and beIN SPORTS, which position the Bundesliga as a central element in their portfolio of rights, underline the attractiveness of the Bundesliga for international TV channels and their viewers.

The Audiovisual Rights business area is also responsible for the allocation of broadcast rights to Bundesliga content in aeroplanes and on cruise ships. The broad-ranging area of activity is rounded off by collaboration with news agencies and sale of international audio rights.

 Sales Revenue: Impressive Growth

Impressive Growth

The rates of increase in international sales reflect the global growth in attractiveness of the Bundesliga. International media revenue almost quadrupled between the 2006/2007 and 2013/2014 seasons, growing from 18.6 million euros to 70.4 million euros. In the upcoming rights period, revenue from international media rights will more than double again, equalling over 150 million euros per season as soon as 2015/2016.
